Serum levels of IgG subclasses in relation to IgE and atopic disease in early infancy

Study suggests that patients with atopy and high IgG levels should be screened for total IgE because there is a positive correlation with level of IgG and IgE
At 18 months of age significantly higher levels of IgG1 and IgG4 were found in infants with an elevated total IgE than in those with a lower level. A weak positive correlation between IgE and IgG4 were found in infants with an elevated IgE.
High levels of IgG4 but normal levels of other subclasses reported in adults with atopic eczema and bronchial asthma.
Significant increases in the levels of IgG1, IgG3, and IgG4 but not in IgG2 have recently been observed in adult atopics as compared to non-atopics.
