Dr. Lynn Averill, MD, PhD
Kokkonen J, Tikkanen S, Karttunen TJ, Savilahti E. A similar high level of immunoglobulin A and immunoglobulin G class milk antibodies and increment of local lymphoid tissue on the duodenal mucosa in subjects with cow's milk allergy and recurrent abdominal pains. Pediatr Allergy Immunol. 2002 Apr;13(2):129-36. (Click here to view/order article at Pubmed) Dr. Averill:
Cow's milk allergy of infancy is associated with elevated levels of IgE antibodies to cow's milk proteins and manifests as an immediate reaction. Delayed cow's milk allergy beyond infancy (greater than 3 years of age ) is caused primarily by IgG class antibodies against cow's milk proteins. Patients with recurrent abdominal pains should be tested in our standard IgG panel for milk allergy.Dr. Bennett:
Rationale for IgG food allergy testing for patients with recurrent abdominal pains and GI tissue alterations.
